I went to a Memorial Saturday for a dear friend. Carolyn Owens, she was the owner of the first womyns bar in Akron called Satans Den. It was on the corner of Forbes St.and Arlington St. It was the catalyst for me wanting to own a bar. The bar opened doors for gay life starting in 1972 thru 1983. It was those people that fought so hard for their lifestyle. At the Memorial there were plenty of familiar faces. We have gotten older, some gray, some a little bigger and some thinner. But I must say we picked up where we left off. It was like I was 25 all over again. We shared stories of the past and at times the laughter was uncontrolable. It was the end of an era for us. Some of us will keep in touch others will go on with their life of today. But I wouldn’t have missed it for the world. Again Carolyn’s bar brought happiness to us and many good memories back. She will be missed.

Better days
Posted in Uncategorized on July 23, 2009 by lydiasbarWriting blogs lately seems to get harder and harder. I always try to write something upbeat and postitive. With the economy the way it is and everyone hurting over money and lack of work it sometimes is hard to stay postitive, but that is exactly what we all need to do. A good friend said to me at one time, money is only paper and ink. Things will pass in time. Life is full of changes. Maybe where you are now is not where you are suppose to be. We have to open ourselves to change and embrace it. Not everything stays the same. Relationships break up, people move, job changes come along and so on. We can not be defeated by all these changes. We all need to say to ourselves, “Ok one door closed but another is opening.” I know it is hard to stay positive but that is exactly what we need to do. So when you get up in the morning, say to yourself this is my day and it is going to be a great day. Smile at that stranger you pass. Say hello to someone you’ve never spoken to before. Remember when you smile people always wonder what your up to.

New To Website
Posted in Uncategorized on April 22, 2009 by lydiasbarEvery Monday I will post something either really brillant or no so brillant. Some blogs will be my own, others will be quotes I really like. Either way it will be interesting to say the least. My blogs are not to be taken personally; they are just some thoughts I put together. You can agree or disagree it makes no differance to me. Send your Kudos or send your reply. We all have to agree to disagree. That is what makes us each our own person.
Here is a thought that I have lived by for years. Not everyone likes everyone. We have the right to pick and choose who we want as friends. So, if you don’t like a person or they don’t like you, so what? That’s life move on!

Obsession
Posted in Uncategorized on May 18, 2009 by lydiasbarWe all want things we can’t have. For some it becomes an obsession too strong to fight. Most of us see that, others have a hard time. Obsessions become compulsion, that makes you do things you would never do in life. Eventually you give up your normal live to pursue something that has left you without any life. All you see is that obsession. The obsession that eats at you until you have destroyed every good thing around you. You are left standing alone saying how did I get here. There are some things in life we are not suppose to have. There is a higher reason for that. If it is to hard to get, then you are not suppose to have it.

Technology
Posted in Uncategorized on May 31, 2009 by lydiasbarWith all the new technology out there these days, people should be thinking twice. Everywhere I go someone is either texting or talking on phone. Has life become that complicated we can’t even go the bathroom without our phones? What happened to the simple days? The days when people actually interacted together? I mean had a real conversation? Everywhere I go, I have wait in line and at least 2 out of 3 people are on their phones. I really don’t care to hear their conversations. I find it rude and disturbing! Slow down folks… take a break. Everyone will still be out there… even when you’re done ordering your food, paying your bills, etc.

Sixty
Posted in Uncategorized on June 27, 2009 by lydiasbarTurning sixty has snuck up on me. My mind doesn’t feel any older, but my body gets tired easier and faster. People ask me if I feel any older? I don’t know what sixty is suppose to feel like. I still dress the same (not polyester and elastic waistbands). No ortho shoes… still wearing Doc. Martins or sandals, T shirts, levi’s, kaki shorts and so on. So am I acting my age? Maybe not. I see a lot of other women that look lots older and act it. I am who I am for as long as my body and mind hold out. The moral of the story: Be true to yourself, be who you are, do things to challenge yourself, take chances, love life to the fullest.
